From the immanent seas, accompanied by glassy foams and the curly feathers of the floods, the Old Spirit roams on foot. Into the bosoms of the lush forest he goes, driven by a thirst for departure, of traversing the long distance (a distance burning with the ebbing of ages) between the Self and the Emerald Wildernesses he had once named "Mother." For She rules every wound and scar of his dreams, for only She can raze every drip of pain from his battered soul. The Dead has dispelled him, so he forfeited his past into the carcass of the turbulent seas. Henceforth, transformed into a formless but fierce gale, the Old Spirit keeps on roaming in a state of dreaming, and upon every step of Him, the World and Time welcome their rebirth.
A mesmerizing masterpiece that skillfully transgresses the genre boundaries, the second full-length Por Nós da Ventania of the Brazilian duo Vauruvã invites listeners once again into their soundscape of dreams. Similar to their debut, Vauruvã follows the path directly branched off from the legacy of Kaatayra (his highly acclaimed previous project), which blends in elements from various genres -- with more prominent influences from (post) hardcore this time -- into their already trademarked style of Black Metal: atmospheric, grandiose, and equally sorrowful. If you are already familiar with Kaatayra's almost poetic flow of silky melodies and superbly crafted riffs, this is THE album you have to check out.
