Fragrant, the debut album by GlassBath, solo project from China. unfolds through the lens of blackgaze and depressive post-black metal, descending into a long spiral of emotional memory and self-dissolution amid hazy, distorted soundscapes.
Evoking the spirit of early Ghost Bath and Sadness, GlassBath intertwines layers of cascading guitars, distant and blurred vocals, and a dreamlike atmosphere that drifts between reality and reverie. Memories fade within empty rooms, an untouchable spring is lost to seasons of solitude, and names buried by time resurface night after night, reflecting longing and sorrow like fragments of glass.
This album is a mirror in a constant state of breaking. The closer one tries to approach it, the deeper its sharp edges cut; the harder one struggles to hold on, the further the familiar figure within the reflection drifts away. Dreams, moonlight, blood, and tears intertwine throughout the record, forming a grey boundary suspended somewhere between reality and illusion.
