Slowly, beneath a crimson firmament sinking into night, the season begins its quiet retreat. Wind passes through rain-soaked woods; droplets gather upon the faded leaves of ancient trees. Water slips over stones thick with moss and age. Retreat, alone upon a muddy path, beneath the murmur of branches, beneath Moonlight and Distant Constellations, until the memories once carried so fiercely by heart, little by little, start to lose their weight of meaning.
The debut full-length Paysages Tristes by French atmospheric black metal nova Mossytone gathers the three compositions of the project's earlier EP alongside two new works, unfolding as a solitary meditation upon nature, loneliness, and the gradual unraveling of the Self. Rooted in the vastness and chill of atmospheric black metal, its layered melodies, distant harmonies, and rain-veiled walls of guitar evoke a landscape akin to a mournful pilgrimage, leading listeners through forests of loss, forgetting, and eventually, silence.
Here remain only the wind among silent trees, the scent of wet earth after rain, the fragrance of fallen grain, the stars rekindling themselves within the void, and those emotions long suppressed, hidden away, yet never wholly abandoned. Like winter mist dissolving beneath the cold breath of dawn, they fade into the air under the soundless gaze of the cosmos, becoming one more traveler carried away by the current of time.
