Promises of parting bodies, from one lip to another, incoherent as our own flesh, onto which the City’s ravings carve their bileful negation: insistently, infinitesimally, remolding the space we shared into one single Body -- Armor of Amour -- an apparatus made out of erected empty husks -- Failed Innocence. Promises, longings, addictive self-dissect-plines -- edified grey modes of emotions whorling in your wakings. Accept them. Accept Its love, Its teaching. Until you are used to such trajectories -- from one lip to another, the hatred of love -- until the residues of “Me” fully liquified in the mechanics of “Everyone Else,” so that you may eventually endure such penitence its weights, fixated, trapped, as one component of Its Amour -- Its Visceralstructure, Our Infradependence.
Bizarre, oppressive, despondently beautiful, London-based Unmother once more succeeds in dragging all listeners into our dystopian reality. In their sophomore full-length album, State Dependent Memory, Metropolis and its Worldmaking is arguably the protagonist, through which Unmother examines (or anatomizes) such familiar territories that surround and impose themselves on us. This is not yet another “product” of post-punk-informed Post-BM, but a genuine audio diary of alienation and non-belonging—memories, love, and languages. As the album unravels itself, a horrid, concrete soundscape is summoned by its unorthodox song structures and avant-garde aesthetic, while transcending Black Metal's form into something truly visceral -- an Agony lodging in the Heart.
