Split EP of London-based metalgaze and post-rock band World Coda and post-metal band Asthenia from Beijing.
With every flutter of the flock It allured, the Wind of your Quietude flares into the Starlit South. There, pulsating the languages of the Sea, Moon hides her tainted face, and your hollowed body is startled awake. Don’t seek. Haloless Night, your visage -- lucid, flimsy, tenuous, chosen by your muffled words -- whatever veils the space between you and the Night bears little resemblance to your dream’s original wish -- a membrane still withholding the warmth of the newborn: a glittering silver, an estranged desire, enveloped in a sadness unsought-for -- breathlike, only thinner. You understood: there will be moments of flight, and the Cruel Lights and their thousands of flickers will catch me ahead - overflown, with wings of drifting blue -- then the ordinary alignments of the world once accepted by you will fall apart, as inanimate beings unleashed into life. Indexes of a liquid efflorescence shielding above your eyes and their naked pains, simply extended the boundary between the part of you which you’d named Flesh and the part eschewed any caress of will. O their sinuous lines of flight, a monotonous motion of teeth ripping into lips. Drowned, choked, your decision. Luring onwards, the Wind its lines -- it cuts and heals you. Only then, the hollowed vessel of your body your love can sail on, for another unuttered promise -- by you and by you alone -- to cast the contour of your heart your breaths -- Your Absence, never was a waste.
Asthenia and World Coda, two generations of artists exploring the frail souls of human conditions refracted through the capricious lens of Post-(Black) Meta/Shoegaze, join forces in Rupture, a split EP best be considered as one uninterrupted flow of crepuscular contemplation. Serene yet full of Hidden Angst, reminicncting the Stars Astray and the Futile Tides, Rupture and its harsh poetics unfold as an enmeshed stream of airborne sensations -- of abandonment, of consolation -- that threads through its beginning and end, while somehow, with a tinge of melancholy so intimate, cedes part of its traces within one’s imagination, as if one too has partaken in this Sonic Rupture led by the two bands, and left awestruck caused by the reliving of that emptiness without, its Rapture and its beauty.
