From caskets devoid of any rightful denizens to the lingering steps of those woeful spirits who lingered amidst the miserable dwelling withholding all the living – the weight of loss and regret and its coiling shackles have been, let’s be honest, etched on us, all of us, in one way or another, ever since the fear of death was brought to this dwelling, by each of us, by the first whisper of a feeble, infantile breath. Informed and rooted firmly in the aesthetics of Japanese/Eastern horror, summoned by one mysterious Altar, such (oftentimes gruesome) symmetry of life and death and those undead who wandered beyond its border – as a subject of obsession – have been slowly merging into an evolving streams of fervent orchestra: fervent indeed, with all its splatter beauty, all the wilting dying roses, painted in another set of tarnished red.
With such aesthetics and missions, Saidan plows their way through the US scene. Formed and debuted in the heyday of Vampiric- and nocturnal- worshiping Raw Black Metal, Saidan has set themselves aside by choosing the netherworld of the Eastern Soils as their main focus – not just remaining on the shallow thematic surface, but also, as we are fortunate to be granted through the list of releases coming forth, crafted their own outstanding sound of Melodic Black Metal with the flamboyant magical world of Japanese Visual Kei and all Its bleak incandescence: from the conceptual Jigoku album where – just like those forsaken children behind its text - the embryo of Saidan and its splatterpunk anthems was slowly awakened, bridging the two Onryō releases, and eventually culminating in the latest conceptual album and modern MeloBM classic Visual Kill.
