In the space between prayers – each and every hush – the ruminating self can sense Their presence. The rite begins—calling the sacred, unbinding the soul from the weight of death. Water cleanses, fire refines, the spirit gathered, the body set free. To call forth the souls lingers in the bardo, caught between echoes of the past and the pull of the next life, adrift in the quiet tide of in-between, neither bound nor released – neither words nor wills – only the to endure the wind thrashing through the Three Realms, did they arrive at the first stage of Crossing: O the ruminating self, see those Souls and their weightless will – lift their burden; aid them.
筮人 is among the many emerging Ritual Ambient/Experimental artists from the Chinese underground. Through its marvelously prolific discography since the 2022 debut, 筮人 has been forging a unique sound of the Occult East, perfecting each rite, and adding (and sometimes subtracting) elements of noise/harsh noise and sometimes structures of Black Metal onto its sonic Mandala. 度亡, released back in 2023, based on the Taoist funeral rituals that will lead the Dead onto transcendence, is one of its finest outputs: pure meditative aggression. Its physicals will finally see the light this March: Pest Productions will release this gem as digisleeve CD with three bonus tracks.
