The summoning of primordial beasts that slumber beneath the ancient waters; the terror of encountering entities so vast and alien that they defy comprehension; and humanity’s futile attempts to grasp the unfathomable civilizations that are forbidden by the delimitation of our own knowing -- core elements of Lovecraft’s mythos as such makes up the thematic base for Dark Nebula Choir’s latest EP. Inspired by his immersion into the work of H.P. Lovecraft, Lovecraftian Abyss is a tribute to this master of cosmic horror and the eldritch facets of the universe in his vision.
Continuing his exploration of 90s Symphonic black metal and dark ambient, five tracks of this EP serve as direct references to Lovecraft’s tales. The grandeur of its sonic descent is both ancient and nightmarishly ethereal, resulting in a quite mesmerizing listening experience despite its relatively short length, wherein everything unknown is more alive than the darkness of our world.
