Black Forest is a new German Black Metal project hailing from northern Schwarzwald. A brainchild of Yarsiluth and Werwolf — two of the hyperactive inciters of the current scene (Helsang, Runenwacht, Kroda, Sankenbach, etc.) — Black Forest is fueled by their passion for the traditions and mysticism rooted in the Schwarzwald region. The self-titled debut demonstrates a very modern take on Black Metal sounds that draws inspiration heavily from European Death Metal: tight-paced tremolo aggression and malicious grooves, coupled with clean passages to create a meditative and also eerily menacing suspense — allowing the listeners a glimpse into the region’s myths-filled landscape and the cold and delirious introspection of these two Schawarzwald natives. Arguably one of the highlights of Modern BM this year.
