Wistful is a solo project by Alex Clément, aka Ishkur, from Portugal. The project started in late 2010 as a cathartic process, and visceral manifestation of melancholy and the struggle between hopefulness and hopelessness. It released an eponymous album in early 2011 through Mexican label Self Mutilation Services, which garnered good reviews and reactions. This album, in the vein of Alcest, Lantlôs and other post-black metal / blackgaze bands was sung in native language Portuguese.
It laid dormant for 5 years, until late 2016, when Alex got working on a new album. This new album is a fully instrumental release, drawing somewhat away from the earlier black metal elements and embracing a more post-metal sonority. Wistful has been up to now a strictly studio-based project, but is in the process of recruiting live members to start playing live in late 2017!
